The Hear This Programme
INTRODUCING HEAR THIS an interactive, fun and educational programme for Years 4 to 8
Noise induced hearing loss can be prevented

Hear This is a presentation designed for children aged between 8 – 12 years (Year 4 to 8) to learn about the ear, hearing, decibels and how to prevent noise induced hearing loss.
The presentation takes approximately 45 minutes.
It is educational, scientific, fun and interactive!
Students are educated on several different topics:

What is sound
-
The anatomy of the ear and how we hear
-
How hearing is damaged
-
What it is like to have hearing loss
-
How loud is too loud?
-
How to protect your hearing
-
How to use ear plugs correctly
Activities include:

Using a tuning fork and ping pong ball to demonstrate the power of sound vibration

Demonstrating the effect of noise on ears using chenille sticks (pipe cleaners)
-
Flash card game to identify the decibel level of some everyday sounds

Measuring the decibel readings of different voice levels with a sound level meter
-
How to use ear plugs the correct way
Students will:

Measure sound and learn about decibels with the help of scientific tools

Explore the way sound travels

Discover how important it is to protect their hearing

Gain knowledge to preserve their hearing for their entire lives!

Rest Home Education Programme
We provide education sessions for Rest Home/Retirement Village facility Staff regarding Hearing Loss in the Elderly and how to care for hearing aids.
We also offer sessions for Rest Home/Retirement Village Residents on Living with Hearing Loss and Communication when Hearing Impaired.
If you are a retirement facility staff member or resident and would like to have our Hearing Educator talk with your staff or residents regarding these or any topic you would like covered that relates to hearing, please contact the office or hearing@hearinginfo.co.nz to discuss further.
Community
Talks
We offer talks to Community Groups such as Probus or Day Clubs on Living with Hearing Loss and Communication when Hearing Impaired.
